I'm cleaning up the interior of my '74, (by cleaning up I mean "gutting it completely save for two seats and a roll cage").
Does anyone have a cool trick for removing that black tarry sealant/sound deadener they used? I want to POR-15 the whole floor, but I have to get the gooey crap up first. I can see it gumming up a wire wheel with a quickness, the torch & scraper trick would be tedious and smokey...
Thanks
Paul
the only way i could think of would be more of a pain in the butt ???
http://www.por15.com/ go there and as if it can just be painted over it
Well, lay it on me. I've got a looong winter ahead...there are a couple of small holes I need to weld up, and the mount points for the cage I'll grind down to bright metal. I'm not putting new carpeting, so I'd like to clean it up and put the POR-15 to it.
I'm going to be scraping, I can see it already...
Thanks
Paul
grease and wax remover and 2 piles of rags.. one a good rag pile and the other a bad rag pile. just play good rag bad rag as we call it. let the grease and wax remover disolve the gluey crap, then you should be able to wipe it off or scrape it off. you can buy it from any paint supply store. if you cant find it any strong solvent should do. just wipe it away with the bad rag, and then clean it up with the good rag.
Heat gun will break most of it lose, then paint remover for the residue.

This may be a big no-no, but how about Muric acid, a handy hose, some time, rubber gloves, and a scraper? :o
