Hello PintoNewbie,
Welcome to the Ford Pinto forum.
The stock 2.0 Pinto is really a slug.
Especially with an automatic.
If you are going to be adding performance upgrades it is best to start out with a fresh rebuild or a fresh Build is even better.
Turbocharging is the way to go for peak HP but may be costly.
The standard goodies apply Header, Cam and some more compression.
A reworked carb or replacement of the stock 26-27 webber to the 32-38 weber will help.
Good luck on your purchase and be sure to include a photo when you get your Pinto home.

Well, I have had both and its a matter of personal preference. Both are fun but I like to beat V8s with 4s so my usual choice is the 2.3/2.0 version. I don't think one is "better" then the other.

I agree, either is kool. I went for the 2.3 turbo, I did not want to deal with the suspention and the extra weight. The turbo swap is "CLOSER" to a direct bolt in than a v8 (it is a "bolt in" if you delete the heater box and cut a hole in the hood, but you will still have fuel and eletric items to work on).

If ford made pintos with either, they might still be in production.

I'd say take a look at speedway motors out of lincoln nebraska. they have many items for the 2.3, but I'm not sure what they have for the 2.0
