I just got done rebuilding my carb on my 2.3L 74 pinto. I am here in college and I did it here in my dorm. I need to know how to tune the carb up I forgot to mark the screws. If someone could tell me how it would be so great!!! Plus after I rebuilt it the throttle sticks bad now is there any specific reason for this.
Matt
I screwed around with rebuilt carbs from auto parts stores for to long. Send yours to Pony Carburetors pay the price and be done with it. That is what I did and now my Pinto starts and runs everyday. www.ponycarburetors.com
Thanks for your input. But id really just like to know what the screw settings are on the carb I think I should be able to get her going by myself. I am really kinda tight on money or otherwise I would just send it off to pony carbs.
tighten the screws all the way(not too tight), back them off 1 and a half turns, and start from there. start the car. back one screw out, if the car runs smoother keep going a little more and then tighten it til it starts to stutter again, and then loosen the screw 1/4 of a turn, repeat for the other side.
If you loosen the screws and the car doesn't run any smoother then tighten the screw til the car starts to stutter a little and the loosen a 1/4 turn.
as far as the throttle sticking, did you remove the butterflies(throttle plates) from the shaft??? If so they might not be aligned just right.
If you did take the carb back off, back the idle screw out all the way. and loosen the butterfly screws,(both sides). wiggle the shaft a little and retighten the screws.
p.s. if this is the case you wont be able to get the carb adjusted right, until the plates are aligned in the bore.
Cool thanks! It was my butterflys. I did what you said and now it runs awesome. I cant believe that messed it up so much. Now I will know from now on. Thanks DTD
