Post by: 8upwithpinto on October 28, 2003, 04:25:53 PM
Does anyone know if a Mustang II petal cluster will work ina Pinto? Don't have many doner Pintos around here. I can find more mustang IIs laying dead close by. Any suggestions?

Also, not that I'm doubting anyone but, when installing a t5 trans; Does anyone know if the driveshaft has to be cut or can I just swap out the front yolk/snout?

i can't promise it, but a friend of mine did a 302/T5 swap in his 75 pinto.  He used a driveshaft out of a mustang II he claims.  He didn't use the stock drive shaft for the car.

don't know if it was a manual or auto mustang II.  but... i drove in the car personally so well, thats what he claimed.

The original four speed and bellhousing measure about 30-1/4" long (front of bellhousing to output shaft seal).  A T5 and bellhousing measures about 31-1/2" long, so yes, you will have to cut the driveshaft if you are replacing a four speed with the T5.

I compared the two earlier this year.  The Mustang II pedals have a different curvature than the Pinto.  It was very close though, so they might still work.  I am pretty sure you will only have to change the pedals.  You shouldn't have to swap the whole bracket (PITA).  My 79 hatchback, which was a factory AT car, had all the holes punched in the bracket to install the clutch assembly.  3 bolts and you are done.

NOOO! Don't waste your time cutting a driveshaft. Using a T-5 with a stock 79 thru early 90 something Mustang driveshaft fits perfect. I used a Motorsport aluminum shaft with a hibrid u-joint on the rear from Autozone (front was large style and back mated to an 8 inch rear small style yoke) And couldn't fit any better.
