Okay I need some help ??? I was wondering if I took the 302 Crank,Rods, and put them in a 289 block bored .30 with 289 heads if I would need any special type of Pistons? Would it reach top dead center or slap the plugs? I plan on going with 1 point up on the compression ratio with the pistons. Lowwww Budget for now.
That should work with no problems, assuming you will not use domed pistons. I believe the 289 has smaller combustion chambers than the 302.
Both engines have a deck height of 8.206".
The compression height for the pistons in both motors is 1.605". The .130" longer stroke of the 302 is used with the .065"shorter rod to keep the compression height identical.
(Info from a Ford Motorsport catalog)
But if I used 289 Rods and 302 Crank in a 302 block I would have a problem because 289 Rods are longer Eh? Thanks for the Help
Yes. You would have to make up the difference with some custom pistons with a compression height of 1.54" (1.605-.065). That really wouldn't be the best approach if you want to keep the costs down.
