Post by: fwpinto on October 05, 2005, 07:29:36 AM
I am just getting into ford pintos.I have noticed that the pinto came with a 2.3 engine. Can a later model computer controled 2.3 be converted back to points and carbureator?I know a man who has a 1989 ranger with 4cyl engine. Was wondering if it`s engine could be converted to points distributor and carb.thanks

the dist. will slip right is and should work fine. I think that the newer 2.3's had one of the intake bolts in a different location. nothing a little *cough*silicone*cough* won't fix...

on those engines they replaced the dist. with a camshaft pos. sensor and syncro shaft which is basicly the bottom half of a dist with the sensor on the top. take that out and a dist. will slide right in. same thing on the 5.0l in explorers and 3.0l ohv in taurus'. the engines that never used a dist don't have any way to install one but on the engines that did they used that shaft and sensor. here is a pic of what I'm talking about.
