Title: Fading Oil Pressure
Post by: allfordmark on October 05, 2005, 01:37:45 AM
Funny thing happened the other day while driving my '72 2.0.  As I slowed for traffic the oil pressure faded slowly.  When I revved the engine it slowly came back up and seemed fine.  This continued until I got home.  I pulled the distributor and found nothing.  The next step was to pull the pan.  I found the oil pick up hanging by 1 bolt. I have driven this Pinto for the last 10,000 miles with no other symptoms of oil trouble and it has about 30k since the last overhaul.  The cam is good but the exhaust seats are shot so I get a different head with steel seats next week.  Just thought that I would share.

Hello allfordmark,
There is supposed to be a tin piece that you bend the ears over to keep the oil pump P.U.
"Sump Tube" bolts from backing out.
Keep us posted on your progress.

The keeper must have been left off like the timing bracket when it was rebuilt.  Thanks for the info so that I can install a proper keeper.

Loc-tite just won't do it on the oil pump P.U. for 2.0.
