Title: 8" rearend swap
Post by: critracerx on October 04, 2005, 08:59:53 PM
Does anyone know the best donor cars for the 8" swap into a '73 Pinto Wagon??   Can I get one from a 70 Maverick.....or should I try to find one from a V6 Pinto???   Which cars came with Traction locks??

Hello critracerx,
The maverick rear will be a 5 lug.
The V6 Pinto would have the stock 4 on 4.25 bolt pattern.
About the only place you will find a T-loc is Ebay.
UNLESS you are REAL lucky.

Thanks Pintony,

I went junk yarding and found an 8" 4 lug in a 1970 Maverick at Pick n Pull, complete drum to drum for $69.99.
I also found a complete drum to drum 8" in a 1974 Mustank II V8 car at another wrecking yard for $200.00

I think I'll spend the extra money for the Mustang II rearend and be positive of a correct fit.
Thanks again for your help!!!

Maverick is 4 lug on 4 1/2" bolt pattern.
Mustang II is 4 on 4 1/4" same as Pinto.

I'm thinking the maverick 4-lug rear is a 7 1/2' rear???? Not an 8" rear.

Wow, great information!!!!   The Maverick definetly has an 8", but the bolt circle is wrong......just like you said.  Thanks soo much!!!
I guess $200 isn't bad for a complete diff........is it????
