Title: Pinto Problems - '80 2.3L w/auto
Post by: slythorne on October 03, 2005, 10:41:32 AM
I just bought a pinto and am trying to get it running. It revs at idle and idles fine and sounds like it has some power to the engine, but it is very slow accelerating and at about 35mph it dies. It seems to me like the tranny is running in a gear higher than it should, but it could have nothing to do with the tranny.

Any suggestions? I have been told it could be the cad converter.. but wouldn't this make it run bad at idle and idle revving? Someone else suggested timing belt or vacume advance.. or is it most likely the tranny?

Sounds like maybe you should check a couple of things-- maybe  your distributer is not advancing--your vacuum modulater may be bad- could be rusty distributer shaft- a vacuum line not hooked up or with a hole in it- because it dies, maybe a bad connection in the distributer--it could be fuel starved, with a dirty fuel filter or something in the fuel lines or gas tank- a short in the starter or distributer--theres so many stupid little things to check, it could be about anything--but maybe you can use some of these suggestions, things that have buffaloed me in the past--good luck
