Back in 1971, I had my first pinto. one day I went out to the garage and was shocked to see the interior front driver side destroyed by fire. the damage was mostly confined to the driver's side. that was in 1971, a long time ago, and I was young and naive. my insurance company hauled it away, i bought a new pinto, but i still wish to this day that I had handled this awful occurence very differently. I should have pressed to find out what caused the spontatneous burning (probably something in the ignition?). It happened over night and I know it was not arson because the locked garage door was undisturbed. Have any of you heard of this kind of thing happening? I should have spoken to Ford Motor Co. about this, but as I said, I was too young and naive about such things. Thanks for any insight/comments anybody might have on what happened that day in 1971. (by way, I did purchase 2 more pintos in the 70's and loved both of them, and just recently purchased a 78 hatchback on ebay that I am enjoying immensely!
Let's see..... Hmmmm....
Drivers side burn? Hmmm.
1971 Hmmmm.
Mary Jane? ;D
Back in the dark recesses of my brain, this sounds familiar to me. If i recall the first batch of pintos had the problem of the ignition switch on the column shorting out and causing the car to catch fire. Sounds like what happened to your car.
