I just put up a post under my Pandemic project forum asking for advisement about my concerns regarding a ticking noise when engine is cold, and goes away once warmed up.  Please take a look at my question and advise...

I put this post up as I wanted to keep everything together under my Pandemic Project blog, but I was afraid some people who may have the answer might not be following my blog.  All of you guys are awesome with your suggestions and/or advisements...

The ticking noise could be from one lifter if the noise is coming from the valve cover , sometimes over time a piece do sluge or some crud gets into them and they will bleed down and tick away until the oil pumps them up to take up the slack and the tick goes away , one you can remove them one by one and take them apart to clean the little check valve in them , do not mix up the parts , clean with a spray can of B-12 chem tool when you pull them apart , keep every thing clean when you have it apart , done this a few times on high mileage pintos that lacked needed oil changes , hope this helps

take a short piece of hose pipe and cup one end to your ear and wave the other end over the engine while it is making the noise and you may be able to pinpoint a reasonable location for the ticking .. as it goes away when the engine warms up  it may be an exhaust leak as well ..

Quite often an exhaust leak at the manifold will make a ticking noise until it heats up. Does the noise increase when the engine load is more?
