The gear carrier of my 1972 Pinto wagon has a large X on it. Not a regular size letter - a very large X cast into the gear housing - what does that stand for ? I know the gear ratio is 3:55 - Thanks
I don't have a picture of the X , but this 72 diff had it

Without a picture it would be hard to speculate. That said, was it thick enough to provide some form of structural bracing???

Nope. Just a big X.
I'd take a picture, but it is put away in my pole barn & all covered up. Big snow drifts have it locked away for the winter.
Found a picture but it's hard to see the X
May have to "save as" to your computer to see it ?

I can see the X but my computer monitor is a touchscreen so I can enlarge it easily, just like you would on your phone. I have no idea what it means.

Actually, I still have one of those in addition to my iPhone. I find the sound quality to be much better for conversations!
