Title: DEMO-DERBY PINTO PARTS!
Post by: Pintony on September 11, 2005, 10:18:19 PM
HELLO GROUP!
I say that if a derby member wants parts... they should have to trade parts.
That will keep them from just destroying stuff they don't need.
Unless its just a crappy shell you need to get rid of because you have already stripped it clean of parts..
DERBY TODAY... JUNK YARD tomorrow.
JUST SAY NO!

I agree! With each passing day there are less and less Pintos and Bobcats on the road. Furthermore if PETA can have someone watching a movie set or make abig deal about KFC I think the same should be done for classic and old cars in movies, why should the Hollywood idiots be allowed to destroy any car they want at will.

I had a few demolition derby dorks ask me if my bobcat was for sale. the last guy offered $50 and I told him Don't insult me. you couldn't buy a headlight off my car for $50. I told him that if I were going to sell it, I'd need $10,000. and he looked at me like I was an idiot.

I get that "look" alot.

Think of it this way, the more parts and cars get detroyed (we really have almost no control over) , the more value the rest of them become. Don't take that wrong, I used my first pinto as a racecar and destroyed it (with help); I regret it, but when it went to the yard, it was fully striped of anything useable.

My specific PEEVE,
Is the use of all the 4 speed trannys.
There are few enough of those to go around.
As most later model Pintos came with the C-3 tranny the 4speed is highly prized for swaping.
Because the C3 is expensive to rebuild and the c4 bell is getting harder to find.
My idea is if a derby driver wants to buy parts. Your response should be.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO TRADE?
A few answers like that will make them think twice before throwing all the good parts in the t-can.
I know this does not work for internet sales. because of shipping costs.
BUT should work well for the face to face deals.
Since the parts mean nothing to the derby guy maybe the part you want and some cash to BOOT!

I agree with everything said here- between the wannabe race drivers who just destroy old cars, and Hollywood, they should be told  "NO" when trying to buy these things. We should form a clandestine society and come up with a secret handshake and code words to preserve  these cars and control the sale  and parts exchange! ;D
Remember when Sly had that old '40 Merc they destroyed in one one of his movies? And if you noticed, any time Hollywood has a nice old collectible, they "chase scene" it in to a pile of junk.
My rescued  Pinto is climbing in value even now, as I contemplate it! Hey , have a little fun once in a while! Lighten up folks, I', only half serious withe the society thing!

You don't want to sound like your in some sort of cult, but when I see some vintage metal destroyed so some prissy moviestar can look good in an action flick it does kind of get to me.

If the pinto i race was worth saving for the road, then it wouldn't have made it to the track.  And all the parts i stripped are stored waiting for someone to need them, just taking up space and getting in the road.  So if your so high strung about all these parts, then send me some money and you can have them all.

Sorry to everyone else for the strong words. I havent been home for a couple of weeks, and needed my pinto.com fix and Im already aggravated about my racing season going to the dogs, and then read what ST had to say, and i typed before i thought, which is what he did too.  ST you might want to read some more of the site before you go throwing out insults like "wannabe race drivers",  quite a few of us on here race our pinto's.  The only wannabe about me is the part where i wannabe at the track instead of at work.

p.s. i dont retract anything im just apologizing to those who had to read it.
