Title: We got a great pinto on eBay!
Post by: caravan3921 on September 09, 2005, 09:43:58 PM
I am new to this site, and am having fun surfing it and reading the different links. I am finally getting around to telling all you pinto lovers out there about our new Pinto that we got on eBay.  I could write pages about the experience, but I will try to keep this short and just hit the highlights.  From 1971-1986 we owned three different pintos; then a stretch of about 20 years without owning a pinto.  In august, the weird thought flew through my mind to see if there were any pintos on ebay.  There were!  and lots of Pinto stuff as well.  I was hooked, and glorious memories flooded my brain of all those good years we had with our pinto.  Before we knew it, we had bid on a 1978 three-door runabout.  Robin-egg blue, exterior and interior.  no rust.  sunroof. GREAT SHAPE!  26,000 original miles.  It was located in NE Pennsylvania.  It was stored in garage since 1998.  the owner, a lady in her 80's never drove it in bad weather.  If it started to rain, she would turn around and put it back in the garage.  Anyway, back to the ebay auction: this car was listed 3 different times on e-Bay.  The first time, there was a lot of bidding activity and I was the high bidder but the reserve was not met.  Then, the seller listed it as Buy It Now for $3,600 and no one bought it.  Then, he relisted it with a starting price of $2,650, and I was the only one to bid on it and eventually get it.  We checked with 3 different shippers, and McNutt Transport came in $400 less than DAS (listed on ebay) and another shipper.  McNutt was awesome and I highly recommend them!!!  For those of you interested, it was $700 for door-to-door service with McNutt, from Penn. to MN.  Took the driver 3 days.  We are in PINTO HEAVEN.  It runs great.  We replaced all engine fluids.  We will be replacing all 4 tires, the rear chrome bumper has scratches, so will have to replace or fix, but that's about it.  We plan to store it for the winter.  My long-term goal is to acquire a 1980 hatchback, preferably red in color.  By the way, what is the difference, if any, between a hatchback and runabout?  Also, our pinto was listed on ebay as a sedan...I thought a sedan was a two door.   We are having a blast driving it around and seeing people's reactions.  We do plan, however, to keep the mileage low so won't be driving it tons.  Thanks for reading this and sharing our excitement.  I am even getting personalized license plates that will say, "My Pony." :)

A sedan has a wee little trunk and a fixed back window. The hatchback on the otherhand has a large hatch hinged at the roof that opens the entire rear to allow for huge trunk room and a folding seat. They are also known as 3-doors sometimes. The sedan on rare occasions came with a folding seat but the main use for a sedan is to mount speakers on the rear deck, thats what i did with mine! Congrats to be back in the pinto game!
