I don't know if they'll work at all, but I'm going to check it out this weekend. Has anyone else here tried it?
Also, has anyone tried to put a rear swaybar from an M2 into a 71? I have the 8" from the M2 in there already, and snagged the swaybar when I pulled it. It might just be a matter of fabbing up mouting points for the sway bar ends, but that's not too bad, IMO. I'm going to try that too, but if anyone has some experience on it, lemme know! THanks,
-Mike
Springs work fine if you shorten them a little.
OK, thanks. I actually have a 2.3 turbo in where the 2.0 used to be, and it DOES sit a bit lower now, particularly on the passenger side. Maybe this will fix that a bit.
74/80 model springs are where we got our racing springs for the 71/73 models. Best I can remember, we cut off 1 coil from the 74/80 springs. They will be stiffer after being shorten. Mustang 2 front sway bars will fit too, if you move the mounts foward on the frame an inch or two. Some Mustang 2 V-8s had a 1" bar too.
Excellent! Thanks.
I have never worked on a pinto older than a 77, but last week I installed the sway bars that I pulled from the cobra II in the bone yard. The front 1" bar was a direct fit (1977 pinto), the rear was more of a chalenge, but I used the stock MII brackets and links. The front frame mounts on the rear bar in the MII sit an inch or so more forward where they bolt to the body. With this, I had to modify the end links (they broke anyway when I tried to remove them, as well as the bolts on the brakets) because there is no room to push it forward on the pinto body (mine anyway). I had to weld bolts to the "ring" part of the end links, but when I did, I just put them at an angle.
