Title: Key buzzer
Post by: r4pinto on September 23, 2017, 06:51:31 AM
Got a question...

On my 1980 Runabout I had an issue last week where I left the keys in the ignition. The buzzer doesn't seem to work any longer. I noticed when I bought the car the buzzer worked but the dome light didn't, but the buzzer only worked occasionally after jiggling the door pin switch.

When I got rid of the 77 parts car one thing I kept were the door pin switches, so I installed one on the driver side, which fixed the dome light issue, but now the key buzzer does not work. Additionally I noticed on the passenger side the switch also controls the seatbelt mechanism. (I would hear a single click when pressing and when releasing the pin switch) It did it occasionally on the original door pin switch but not with the new one.

Anyone know if there are any differences in door pin switches or any suggestions as to what may be going on? I looked at the electrical guide but not much luck.

Matt,
Not sure. Can you compare the two years? Does the newer one have more wires connected or anything else obvious? Or even compare the passenger side with the driver's side?
Any possibility given that you had to jiggle the switch before to get the buzzer to work that when you switched switches you may have broken a wire?
Sorry, grasping at straws.
Russ

Grasping is better than nothing. I wasn't sure if the two switches were different. When I compared the two they looked the same but dunno. I don't think I broke a wire since I jiggled the plastic pin that pushes in and out but anything is possible.

My Bobcat same thing.. neither the buzzer or light work any longer, but the buzzer sounded like a sick goose for quite a while. Have to try a new switch. Thanks Matt.

So the door switch I installed may itself have a problem and it's best to replace? Interesting but I guess anything is possible
