What do you think is the Best Year model of the Pinto?
I'm baised, 'cause I've only owned 4 pintos (all wagons). 1971, 1974 and two 1976s.
I like the look of the headlight surrounds on the 75-76 pintos. I think the grilles on the earlier pintos (pre-1977) are the best. I'm not too excited by the 79-80 pintos as I've always thought of a pinto having round headlights.
Just my opinion...

Out here in California we like the 71-73s becouse of the no smogg rule. And there light weight ( 71).

the 1971 pinto is by far the best. After all it was the first ;D
Scott, We Chris and Don, havent got this web site down yet...We are Pinto nuts and would like to talk to others. I Had a 71 wagon way back when and bought him a 71 sedan a few years back. Put 2 bigger motors in it since, but we have a lot of parts for them just laying around. I.m not sure whats the best way to get rid of em...Chris my son says buy a digital camera and go that way ...maybe...but it would be alot of pictures...and time. anyway we do have some things a couple of pinto, com readers need so let us know how to use the web site to reply to them...Thanks Scott Don or Chris
I have a 1971 small rear window Runabout with a highly modified
2.0L and auto trans w/posi rearend. Has been in the family since new
and I still remember driving it when I was 17 just before graduating
high school. So I'm biased too. 71's Rule!
:-[ I'm not too good with computers I think I have replied already.
1971 pinto are the best! I know because I've owned one since new.
ok if the 79 - 80 pintos were not so good how come i cant find any parts for them ? ;D
I prefer the styling of the 71-76 Pinto grilles, IMO it have the front of the car a cleaner look. I like the big bumpers but the 77-78 aluminum ones i prefer, lighter weight and can polish them out so good you can blind people on a nice day, But I hate how far they stick out.
One last thing, the Maverick style taillights rule!
ilike the 74 now cause cali changed it rule about smog every 30 years

I like the 1976, because i just got that, and it's my first car, and i have lots of plans for it.
71-73 all the way!!!!!! NO SMOG TEST!!!!! HA HA HA HA HA ;D ;D ;D ;D
I've has a 71, a 76, a 77 and a 78 wagon, and my favorite so far has been the 78 wagon. Great weight transfer for racing, perfect sleeper car!
Any year..as long as its a wagon! ;D
1974! First year for the 5MPH bumpers, first year for the 2.3 that was built for 20 years and is still alive and well today!
1977 It was my first car. And although it broke down every week it was nothing i couldnt fix in 5mins. I had JB Weld, Epoxy, Duct tape and few small hand tools in the back.
Also the only year i have seen with the full glass hatch.
I loved that car. At the time i hated it. But now i wish i had it.
I have to say that in my humble oppinion pre-77 pintos look better because of the grill shape after 76 the grill looks too much like their trying to look like a Vega or mabey the Vega was trying to look like a pinto! :D

;D So I'll be the only one to vote BOBCAT (79-80) By the way NO SMOG rule HERE !!! 8)
I like the 71-73 because they have a real metal front valence. I've had many 79-80's. Love em but, don't really like plastic for bodywork. Don't get me wrong, I'd never turn down any Pinto/Bobcat, just like the chrome & paint. It's got class. 8)
I've had a 71, 73, 74, 75, and a 77.
I like the Grille/headlights on the 71-75 (hate the 76 grille)
I also like the sloped headlight buckets and alum. bumpers (my 77 has a factory sunroof too) on the 77's.
I will not own a 79-80 or any Bobcat :-\
Mine was a '75, but the fastest stock one I raced was a '76, but I hated the grill.
I like the earlier models for their simplicity and just plain basic design. I think the last ones are nice as well because of the refinement?? they experienced over their 10 year run. I really think mister Ford should be building the Pinto today. Boy, would that add value to the originals. :D
