All kidding aside the GM engine has a lot more weight and width. Besides Pinto's already have a bad enough reputation in the general public. Not using a Ford engine kind of only makes it worse.
One of those chebbys I posted about is a big block. Would be hard to keep the back wheels on the ground.
Actually the Ls 5.3 is about the same weight as a 5.0 and i believe it isnt as wide as a 5.0. Believe me im a ford guy but its hard to argue 350hp from a stock 5.3 compared to 225hp. LS are 300 bucks all day here in ontario
Had the Chev guys back in the 70s scream high almighty when I put a 302 in a.72 corvette, when asked why my reply was I had it and 350sb were hard to come by , as for a chev into pinto I only saw one , car was cut up to make it fit , why cut up a good pinto , unless it's a rust bucket, as for a LS motor I have no idea ,
the way i see it if no one tried to be different and go outside the box all the cars would be the same. who the hell thought that blowers would be normal or nos. wonder what everyone thought about that back in the day. ever wonder how many non fords are running 9" rear ends? i like different and everyone has seen a V8 pinto but not many have seen a LS pinto. lets be different and build whats truely your vision.
"ever wonder how many non fords are running 9" rear ends?"
^X2^ I've consoled myself with that thought many times
The Ford 9" is pretty much universally accepted as one of the stronger rear ends. At the end of the day off brand rear ends, transmissions etc. add durability to a car, but all things being equal (ratios) they don't alter the performance. Another manufacturer engine swap on the other hand does affect performance. Thus, it does make a brand loyalty statement. Some are offended, others not. In the end it is your car, money and time. Do as you want. I have a SBC in my '64 Studebaker Daytona.
While a LS engine in a Pinto might not be common the LS engine (or any SBC V-8) is in plenitude in just about every 32 Ford roadster/coupe. So, in a broader scope a Chevy engine in a Ford is rather common. That said, I've seen the SBC engine in many a Cobra replica. To me something just doesn't seem right to build an authentic replica and then not stick with the brand engine associated with the original. If a Cobra owner wanted to do something different I'd say use a turbo 2.3 or the V-6 Supercharged from the T-bird. Frankly if I was wealthy enough I'd get a Cobra replica and put in the Falcon/Maverick in-line 6 (loaded with Clifford Research upgrades) just to make a counter point.

That would be way cool.. 8)
I hate half breeds, whatever MFG stick with it, don't mix em up. Just me..
Ck out stories on Drag Week a few years ago. There's a white one with an LS and twin turbos under the hood. Runs high 7's in the 1/4 and cruises cross country towing a trailer. Hot Rod did a feature on it too.
