I have a 73 Pinto I use for autocross. Currently I am running the Esslinger setup with 38mm Mikuni's carbs. The guy at the motorcycle shop told me these 38mm Mikuni's are good for about 40hp per cylinder. I currently make 140hp at the wheels, so I'm thinking I'm at about 165-170hp at the crank. I am considering going to a motorcycle ITB setup to try to get more power, while staying legal in my class (no turbo's). Has anybody here done this? If so what size throttle bodies did you use, and where did you source them? I have been told I should go with a throttle body slightly larger than my intake valves. I have the big valves, they are approximately 44.5 mm, which means I'm leaning toward 45mm ITB's. In addition to the big valves, I also have Racer Walsh stage 2 cam, 11.1:1 compression, and a Schoenfeld header tappered down to 2.5" exhaust. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
You might want to check with Burton Power in England , they do have a web site you can go to for parts , they will have more parts for that engine because they still used it up untel a few years ago , even factory EFI from ford , I got a few things from them for my 2.8 V-6 in my pinto from them that I could not find here , later Blaine
Good to see you back. I still have your picture at the hill climb for a screen saver. Try this site http://www.danstengineering.co.uk/ (http://www.danstengineering.co.uk/) as bike carbs are really big in England. Hope this helps. Don't stay away so long.~~~Dick Elliott
assuming we are talking about the 2.0 here (which it should be, being a 73), you might want to take a look at this https://www.jenvey.co.uk/products2/throttle-body-kits/ckfd17-ford-2-0l-pinto-tbp45-kit .
These are made specifically for the 2.0 engine.
For ECU's and TB's look at Emerald http://www.emeraldm3d.com/throttle-body-kits.html , and Omex http://omextechnology.co.uk/Omex%20General%20TB%20Kit%20v4_02.pdf .
All these companies have years of experience with 2.0 Pinto conversions, which might take a lot of guesswork out of your plan.
And a lot of people have taken the Megasquirt route for ECU.
Here's another one for you. http://www.community.ratsun.net/topic/7862-r1-carbs-lots-of-pics/page-1 67 pages of bike carbs
Hey guys, thanks for all your input. I really appreciate it. If I do this I'll be sure to post it up.
