Hello my pinto rulzz,
Since this just happened to me.
On a sunny day try leaving the gas cap off when you expect to do a long drive.
Maybe your gas tank vent is cloged??/
If you want to test it W/O leaving the cap off then as soon as your Pinto stalls try removing the gas cap.
If you hear alot of suction? You have found your problem.
Remember do not leave the cap off with a FULL tank of gas!
Try it with a 1/4 to 1/2 tank.
Also NO smoking during this drive.
LMK if I need to add any more safety disclaimers??? ;D ;D ;D
From Pintony
Might be the tank has much rust & it's cloggin your filter, put a clear fuel filter on it for several days & see if there is any visable sediment.
Had the same problem with my mustard 72 runabout...... Found a NOS gas tank at the time & fixed it...
Hey Scott,
That is a good one! Junk in the tank? I agree!
What did you do with the tank you took of your Mustard Pinto?
From Pintony
Kept it, someday I will need to rebuild it for one of the others,
it became a donor
This was a somewhat common problem on Pinto's, could be your float is sticking too high in the carb, causing the car to flood and stall. (This would explain the hard restart) The other suggestions are also valid. How about a bottle of carb cleaner??? Cheap starting point....
(Shoulda kept my 1944 Ford 8N....)

the other day when i go take a ride with my bobcat i was go to the garage to buy some gasoline and i forgot my gas cap on the top of my car and it fall on the street and after that the cars doesnt stall and after i found my cap i replace it and go to and other ride and the car stall do you think i have a bad gas cap???
I'm NOT sure...
What do you think????
today i go to another ride with my car without the gas cap and the car still stall it stall 8 times in 30 minutes well my father tell me it could be a gas pump problem and this week we got to install a electric gas pump tell me wath you think this is really sad wath hapenned to my car:(:(!! help me.. thank you
To ME it sounds like the carb is dirty, and it ain't getting any gas. an electric fuel pump might help, but be sure to get one with the right pressure and an automatic shut-off 9 see "electric fuel pump safety" in one of the forums on this site. I don't think that your fuel pump is the problem, if it was being a nusience, i would think that it just would not allow gas to get to the carb at all making it not even start, but hey, who knows....... Try this though, if you have an air compressor available to you, take off the fuel line going to the pump and stick an blower attachment to the air hose and blow through the line, have someone else listen to the gas tank by sticking their ear to the filler neck( take the gas cap off first.) If they hear a gurggling sound than the line is clear and the pick up is fine. If you just get spray or fumes out of the tank than your pick up is to high meaning someone replaced the tank at one time and didn't do it right. your Pinto acting like my dads 30 chevy did, even with a half tank it would'nt start, or it would, run, then stall. I don't think that is your problem tough..... anyway, stick the blower in the tank, put some rags around it, and blow. ;D Then, see if gas comes out the line through that way. (I guess you could have done that to begin with too.....) I you get gas, then take off the line going to the carb off the fuel pump and and the line off the carb and blow, and see if the air gets through. If the air gets through both lines, then you know your lines arn't clogged. I would save myself the bother and stick in some good old carb cleaner first as UFOSTeVies suggested , and if that don't work than take the top of the carb off and see how much rust and junk is in there. All these guys have good sugesstions first, just remember, do whatevers simplest and cheapest first, than work your way to the more expensive stuff, you might save yourself a lot of time and hard earned money! ;) :)
Good advice BlueGold...........
I think BLUEGOLD PINTO deserves a 1-up!
BlueGold just turned 7............ ;D
Yeah for me! Thank you! ;D ;) :)
