Title: ThunderPinto II fires up
Post by: High_Horse on August 14, 2005, 03:02:45 AM
My son and I attempted startup at 1:00pm Friday afternoon. He at the key and me at the carb. Nothing....farting out the pipes. A timing check proved the we were 180 degrees out. Brought up tdc and reset distributor. Slipped a little more gas into the carb from the paint can top(and by this time ThunderPinto was pumping it's own juice). Boom....Startup. I played with it a bit slowly but after 60 seconds it shut down. I was good with that and let it be. Saterday..11:00am my son turns the key and we get instant ignition(the way fords are supposed to start). I work the throttle slowly giving it some juice,I throw a little adjustment to the distributor. I want to get the heat up...120 seconds it goes down..stiff. The radiator is warm but not enough to engage the fans, I motion to my son to turn the key...it rumbles up and I hold it up...I need to see how stiff it is. 15 seconds it goes down, but we got more heat and I got some adjustment to the carb. I'm thinking STP don't fail me now.
I pop back into the garage at 2:00pm and figure that it has cooled enough. I twisted the key and was delighted at how swiftly rotation was established. My idle adjustment brought the RPM to about 800 and I let it go..looking at my watch....15 sec--30 sec--1 min. 2-3-4-5-6..the fans engage at 90 degrees(no thermostat) I am getting heat I am beginning to see gas off....cool...10 minutes go by and the garage is a stinking foggy happy place and ThunderPinto is just idleing away.
I am pleased to anounce the addition of another v8 Pinto Wagon to the stable.
