I was coming home from work and saw a pinto pickup sitting in a advance autoparts parking lot. It was for sale so I called the number. I don't care what anyone says, $3000 is too much for a pinto station wagon converted into a pick up truck. Decent job done on it but too much.
Hey Dreambean,
NO! What is too much is that I went to look at a 1971 Pinto Mustard yellow near where I live and 1 Passed on it the owner wanted 1600.00 Now the car is in my town at an ANTIQUE car dealer.
They want 5000.00!
He says it is a #1 car.
Maybe a #3? It looks nice untill you put your finger on the inside of the rear 1/4s and feel the holes in the inner skin of the body.
HELL!!! One time in the rain and you will fill the trunk with water...
I really do not se why... If your going to do a good job? At least put fiberglass under there so it won't leak water into the cabin...
The Pinto is nicely done and has A/C though the antique dealer said that it is factory A/C.
Well LET ME TELL YA...
A/C was not an option untill 1973.
No consolete and no center dash vents.
WHO is that guy tring to fool.

A/C was not an option untill 1973.
I have a 71 sedan, unrestored, I purchased from the original owner that
has factory A/C.
Bob
Hey Bipper,
What is the build date on your Pinto?
You can find this info on the drivers door pillar.
From Pintony
Didn't the dealers install "motorcraft" A/C units in Pintos? If this is the case, then COULD it be mistaken for "FactoryAir"? I've had dealer installed A/C that was fairly well integrated into the HVAC system.
Hi Pintony, the Pinto was built in April of '71. Yes, Motorcraft did make an A/C kit for dealer installation on the Pinto but there's no mistaking it to factory air. W/O factory air the alternator is always on the passenger side of the engine. With dealer installed air the alternator remains on the passenger side and the compressor is mounted above the distributor. With factory air the alternator is above the distributor and the compressor is mounted on the passenger side of the engine. You could make dealer A/C look like factory A/C in the engine compartment but you would need all the correct brackets and a different wiring harness or modify the existing wiring harness because the alternator has moved from the passenger side to the drivers side of the engine.
Bob
Great information Bob, Im giving you a point.
Hey Bob,
Your thinking is VALID.
I agree with everything you have to say about the Factory Vs. Dealer installed A/C for the 1971-72 Ford Pinto
I would have to see it to believe it.
NO I not saying your wrong.
I'm not saying I'm right.
You say you are not the original owner???
I say.. I would like to see how many other early Pintos have A.C.
I'm interested
Can you send photos of your early W- A/C
Maybe the controlls or the complete dash???
From Pintony
Maybe get a History 999 report on the car and see what it says?
Hi Pintony,
I am not very computer literate. I can use the digital camera and probably get pictures into the computer but attaching them to an e-mail to send would be another story. Figuring out computer things is VERY frustrating for me but I'll give it a shot. The car is at my friends house about 30 miles away and I will be up there this Saturday so I'll take pictures of the car and A/C stuff then figure out how to send them. I should learn this because some people might like to see the 73 turbo propane car and I'm going to start assembly of a Ak Miller turbo engine like you did but it's going to look a little more "stock" that yours.
Bob
Likewise....My '72 has factory air....no more brackets for the engine, but does have all the dash accoutreemnts. Will post pics later.
Tony
As per the Ford Parts Catalog 71 Pinto did have factory air available.
There are a lot of dealer add on air that was in the dash but the controls were separate from the heater.
There were also a lot of aftermarket air (non Ford) installed by dealers so they could have more profit dollars in the early years of Pinto.
Hey Bipper,
WHAT!!! My Turbo 2.0 looks completely stock! ;D
YES!!!! Cool I'd love to see some photos of the stock AK Miller turbo kit.
You GOTTA get some of your Propane Pinto.
From Pintony
Tony, Did you say he had a Propane Pinto?? Now this I gotta see.. PLEASE POST THOSE PICS!!!!!!!!
Hey Dreambean,
Yes! Propane! Frank HILL would be proud!!! ;D
I would like to see those photos TOO!

Made secound stop by today to shoot the breeze and get a feel on why they where asking so much for this ride. It turns out that they don't own it but are just selling it for some one. Just so happens that this guy is a good friend of the family. They told me to make an offer and they would call the guy and see what he says. I am goig up to dads tomorrow and see if I can get some help with getting this toy.
Good luck with chasing this one down! Try to take some photos if you can and post them. I'm sure there are others that would be interested in seeing this Pinto!
