Title: 76 pinto brake switch relay D1ZB-13480-AA
Post by: ilvmy76 on August 13, 2005, 11:23:41 AM
i am so very new, both to this site, and to the world of ford motors. (only done dodge and chevy so far)
i recently had my brake lights come on, and refuse to turn off.  (disconnected the battery, to save the charge, and to also prevent the taillight lenses from melting!)

found team auto parts, 1-866-826-5721 had the modern day replacement to the original switch part number
D1ZB-13480-AA.  their part number is SLS83 mfg by standard professional quality automotive parts, it's in now and works beautifully...you know press the brake, lights go on, let go, they go off...it's amazing the things one can take for granted !!

so anyway, i just wanted to share, someone helped me, maybe this will help someone else.

have a happy day all!

Hello : ilvmy76,
You may find that just replacing the switch is not enough,
Most likely you have a residual presure problem.
Usually caused by the front rubber brake line up front ballooning.
Check the rubber bladder under the lid of your master brake cylinder for small pin holes.
Replace it if you have any doubts about it being 100%
You should find the bladder in the HELP! section at the parts store.

well, i think the real damage was done, when i got cut off that morning, even though it's a wagon, there are some really big rigs out there (expeditions, etc).  i haven't driven a manual brake car, well, since, umm high school, so like last year ( ::))  at any rate, i'll pull the cover on that and check it out.
you're so nice to take the time, thanks so much for your help...this ford stuff is a whole new ballgame!
