I have a 79 pinto with a stock(ish) motor, however i am trying to reduce body roll, does anyone know of a beefier sway bar from another car that would be an easy replacement? are the sway bars in the wagons any stiffer?
The sway bars on the later wagons are larger than the sedans/hatchbacks. They are a bolt in, you just need the frame bushings.
would a 78 classify as a later pinto? or do you mean the 79/80?
Aren't the Mustang II parts interchangeable?

I know the 77-80 wagons have the larger bars but I do not know about the 74-76. I know the 72-73 wagons had a smaller diameter front bar if it was equipped. I believe the front sway bars were an option back then. Mustang II bars have a slightly different shape. Not sure if they would work on a Pinto.
Mustang II front and rear sway bars will fit on any Pinto with very little change. Where the front bar fits onto to the frame will need to be moved forward about an inch. That's all and some Mustang II's with a V-8 had a one inch front bar.
