Actually, I think a 03 chevy 5.3 truck motor would slide in nice.

NO, actually the chevy motor would be a better choice as far as late model EFI bolt in and go motors

That's HERESY!!  :'(

LOL it SHOULDN"T be much harder than shoehorning a Ford smallblock in. That being said, there's always the fact that the bowtie has it's Dist. in the back, making clearance an issue. Ya may just need a BFH to make room fot that! I'm also thinking a bowtie is narrower? maybe?
Best of luck in your conversion, you got guts biting off a chunk of project this size  ;)

Heresy yes i agree.  Nowadays if i recall you can call up painless wiring or any company like that and have a harness made to plug in and go.  Too many small block chevys already infest the under hood area of the fomoco family.   If you build a ford car go with ford power build a chevy chevy power and so on.  but if push comes to shove make that car fly.  i guess that what hot rodding is about more speed and power for lil dough with what you got.  I'm still for the ford motor though.

well there are a few problems. The Chevy 283 family is wider and heavier(50+pounds) than a 302 plus there are no swap headers to my knowledge. Then theres fabbing a trans mount and then a driveshaft situation.
Theres was a Girl running around in Hemet Calif that has a bad butt 71 pinto with a Chevy 406 stroker. The engine at last knowledge was at least 12 inches on the setback and the carburetor was just under the cowl with no air cleaner. also no wipers, no heater and no back seat room to speak of. She moved everything back. Last time i saw the car over 5 years ago she was extending the front end about 8 inches trying to get more stability. She street raced. (
Just a side note for interest, Her boyfriend had a 454 blown jeep with 4 wheel drive . they were both reportedly very tough on the street races at last I heard.
sorry bout the tangent.
The Chevy isn't very popular unless you tube frame the car , then you basically have a race car at that point.
My suggestion is to just sell the engine and use the money for a Ford Engine.  ;D
