I've been working on the house of a wihle :'( and havent been able to stop by. I'm working up a 351w install into an 80 Pinto and am ready to overhaul the engine. I'll be using MII exhaust manifolds instead of headers and have stock heads to port. I would like 300hp in a streetable RPM range if possible using a hydraulic, non-roller, camshaft. The 351 will provide enough torque down low and will not be spinning to the moon when I drive, well at least all the time ;). The intake manifold will be either a Edel. Perf. RPM or Air Gap, but would you really gain anything one over the other using exhaust manifolds? This will be coupled to a 5 speed and 9" rear. Or, does anyone know of a good web forum that has info on this type of engine build? Thanks very much and great success on all of your projects.
I did a search on one of the mustang forums for 5.8 rebuild info. The general concensus for using stock rods and crank and stock or similar replacement pistons is using ported E7 heads or gt40 heads. From Jason Fletcher's website, the ported E7's will give about 180 ish cfm flow and stock gt40's will give in the 190's for flow. So I will look for the stock gt40's if I can find them for a reasonable price as this is sufficient flow for me. Cam should be around 500 lift in intake and exhaust and the cam profile I will use will be around 218/226 or there abouts. I have some cleveland 1.73 rockers to bolt onto the heads to give increased lift over the stock 1.6's. The intake will be either RPM Performer or Air Gap, depending on what I find and the price.
Have you fit the engine/trans assembly into the car yet?
