Title: Stock front brakes + 8" rear and brakes in back = scary braking?
Post by: MikeSVO on August 01, 2005, 09:15:53 PM
So the conversion is nearing completion, and I have a question about the brakes.  The rear was upgraded to an 8", and the drums it has are a good deal bigger than the stockers.  My front brakes are the stock discs still.  Will the bigger drums throw off the balance of the braking unless I put in a bias valve thing?  If I could, I'd like to upgrade the fronts an equal amount, not run a bias adjuster and have better brakes overall.

Suggestions?  I don't want to go for a 5 lug conversion at this point, but don't know of any 4 lug upgrade for the front, either.

It's a '71, BTW.

Hey MikeSVO,
The only way to know if your F to R bias needs adjusted is by driving.
As far as front brakes??? Just buy the best pads you can find.
I did not need to change when I installed my maverick rear.

Likewise, I did not have to change anything when I converted mine to an 8".

I do remember installing metallic pads up front, though.   Great braking, never felt like i needed more.

I have balanced brakes by trimming the linings. Not a good idea, but........
