I recently purchased a t-5 out of a mustang and I was wondering if any of you could tell me if i need to do any modifying or if it is a direct swap? any help is appreciated. ??? :-\
Hello RAGINGPINTO,
If you have the 2.3?
It's pretty straight forward.
You will need to modify the stock Pinto crossmember.
Hang your T-5 and then hold the mount so the U goes toward the rear of the car and mark the place where you need to put the NEW holes.
You will also need the speedo cable from the mustang.
+ the correct yoke. and a U-joint to connect your driveshaft.
LMK if you need any more help.

??? I used the same cable and part that inserts into the trans from my original 4 speed but used the speedo gear from the t-5 to match my new gear ratio. My t-5 came with the electric speedo if this makes any differance.
Hey CHEAPRACER,
My speedo cable was way too short.
Maybe a difference in years of the Pinto????
I did my swap on a 1972 sedan that was originally a 4 speed.
Maybe the automatic tranny has a longer cable?????
Lets figure this one out.
I love this group!!!!

My car is a 1980 with the 2300 and the 4 speed any one got a 8inch rear to sell or trade or even gears for the tiny 6.75 rear end because I got 273s in my car, I want at least 340s or lower to go with the t-5 trans

You got me on this one but I will tell you how lucky I was to get a 3:55 geared TurboCoupe and a 3:55 geared 8" rear. It made my speedo perfect with the size tires I run. Now if I can get off my butt to hook up that backup light so I won't run into my fence at night...thats another story.
It also depends on which T5 you have....A t5 from a 2.3 will bolt right in. A T5 from a V8 needs the input shaft modified...i.e. the pilot bearing surface needs to be ground down as the v8 uses a larger pilot bearing. I have done this on mine. You still need the bellhousing from a 2.3/T5 to mate to the 2.3 in your car. I have heard several rumors that there are a few different bellhousings available, but cannot confirm.
