I assume you are asking about the stainless ones? I have used a modified bottle opener with a rag in the past. It worked real well. Cars with vinyl tops are easier than ones without in my opinion. I have never been successful on removing the plastic drip rail moldings on the later cars.

I believe they are glued and crimped ever so slightly.
every one i have done has only been crimped on - pain in rear to pull with out bending - even just a little! take time!!
On my 77 they were a plastic coated trim piece that I just broke off and trashed. The trim pieces were held on with some kind of black epoxy or glue. No matter what I tried the damn trim just wouldn't come off without delaminating. I considered replacing it, but after it was all said and done I think it looks better without them on.
As far as heading went, I fitted a hair dryer and a heat gun, but no luck.
I almost feel like the car would be better off with the channel filled in.

I tried the bottle opener, it did not fit right. I took a channel lock and grabbed it top and bottom. I wiggled it up and down. Front to back and back to front. The glue started flaking out. You need to be careful not to crimp it even more. After doing this over and over it finally came away in spots. I then started to wiggle with out pliers. I slid the back piece towards the back and it slid off the end. I did the same for the front, sliding it off the front. I did this at the junkyard. I tried 4 to get 2. Good luck you are going to need it. It took about 30 minutes each piece.
