Hello all, I need advice with what do to with my '73. I recently bought the car---it's a straight and complete CA car, but the engine has at least a burned valve and probably worse and may well need a rebuild.
I'm facing some decisions here but am interested in keeping the car for at least 5 years and probably longer, so I would be willing to put a bit of money into it.
Ever since my first Pinto, I've always wanted to have one with a V8 in it and I'm wondering if now is the time.
This mechanic suggests that we get the engine from a late 80's Mustang. Then we would get rid of the fuel injection and electronics, and add a carb instead. He also thought the 5-speed would fit but we're still looking into it. And we'd go with the 8-inch rear end but keep the outside of the car completely stock.
Thoughts?
thanks,

There's a lot of different opinions on the engines but I know if your from Ca. then it's smog exempt and you can do just about anything you want. Everybody give a big YEE HAA for Pete Wilson. I'd vote him in for president just for that one signature.
Who is Pete Wilson???
Is Pete, Tom Hanks buddy's first name?????
You know my opinion on the V8 issue!!!!!

Pinto Girl.......I have been waiting years to put this v8 in my Pinto. I knew the v6 was eventually going to go belly up and I was just tired of screwing with that engine. If you have the bucks I can't think of a better reason then you have always wanted to do it. I would be happy to answer any questions that I can.

It used to be that only pre '67 was exempt (the reason I got rid of my 11 second 440 powered '67 Fastback Cuda and other drag/street cars) from ca. smog checks. He came in and said 30 years old and beyond is exempt, that lasted until Swartz-a-majiggie came in and stoped it at pre '76. Damn actors turned polititions.
