Title: 350 Holley in a 78
Post by: Pinto_Guy on July 21, 2005, 11:15:12 PM
Just got my 350 from Esslinger today. The guy said it was a drop in, What B.S.!!!!

Anyone do one? Should I look for a linkage from another car or send it back and just get a webber? The engine is stock with a header coming later. Just looking to replace the old carb with a new one.

Hello Pinto_Guy,
Your carb IS a drop-in IF you have an esslinger shop at your disposal... ;D
I'd call them about the proper linkage before just sending it back.
Though.. I would have put the header on before the carb too.
So... What do I know???
Keep us posted on how esslinger treats you on this issue.
Remember.. Ask for the PARTS MANAGER before trying to tell anyone about your problem.
Otherwise you will have to tell your story several times.

Maybe the guy meant "drop-in" the garbage can?
I tried a bunch of different carbs when I was still fooling around with the 4 cyl's, and I havent found anything that works better than the dual stage 2 barrel one( with some machine shop alterations) I opened up the venturi's a couple of mm's and smoothed out the casting imperfections and all the edges on everything, plus polished the bores and butterflies and spent a week and about a hundred dollars worth of spark plugs getting the jetting just right.
Actually now that im typing all this I guess I did quite a bit of work to that carb. Its all coming back to me now, I opened it up quite a lot, I made the new primary almost as big as the original secondary.  Wish I would have kept it when I sold the car.  I would rather have that carb for my v-6  than the regular 2 barrel im using.  I had a lot more time on my hands back then.

I talked to Esslinger today. They said that is my only option. He said they couldnt get the replacement carbs anymore. He told me to start fabbing or send it back for a refund minus the 20% restocking fee of course.

My car has an automatic so it needs a kickdown. The 350 is 90 degrees off as far as the linkage goes.

All of these headaches are because of some ham fisted goon at the smog place thought he saw one of the carb top bolts wiggling around so he went and stripped all of them.

It looks like a trip to pick a parts for a pos stocker that Might be rebuildable.

Anyone want the holley, spacer, aircleaner? $300 takes it all.

I mounted a good old Motorcraft 2bbl from a 351 to my stock '74 manifold. With   the 300+ degree .510 lift cam & all the goodies inside, it ran quite well. It was only supposed to be temporary but I kept it on the whole time.
