Title: Pony Carburetors, Hey Scott H.
Post by: Pintony on July 21, 2005, 07:46:14 PM
Hey Scott,
Seems some members are having trouble with their carbs.
Why not post the contact info for the shop you used?
If you are still happy with their service.

I used Pony Carburetors to have my 72 Wagon's carb redone right before the First Pinto Meet,
http://www.ponycarburetors.com/

They did an EXCELLENT job, their 'concourse' service included re-engineering the carb for NO 'flat' spots,

They even send you a video on how to install & adjust your carb. I also learned to adjust the timing on the 2000cc NOT by the timing light but by the vacuum gauge. There are some 'specifics' that must be followed before you can get to this stage of timing but it really works!

I have NEVER had ANY of my Pintos run so well!

One pitfall, they send you a new fuel filter with the rebuilt and it's a requirement to install it along with their instructions, I REALLY recommend going to your local Auto Zone or such & purchasing a generic SEE THROUGH filter where you can see the debris coming from the gas tank. My rusted gas tank had particulates that the new stock (not their fault) fuel filter they sent did not catch. This one thing stopped up the works for me. Let's face it, our cars (most of them) don't have the cleanest gas tanks considering the age. I called for tech support & the owner called me back & spent much time with me on the phone, he was EXTREMELY knowledgeable & helpfull.

If anyone uses their company for your carb, mention FordPinto.com... We're looking to partner with them in some fashion.

Scott, I imagine they stand behind their work as well. Can you speak on that? Also, are their prices reasonable? It seems almost everyone who owns a pinto has carb trouble sooner or later and this company might just save a lot of frustration on us all.

Yes, they stand behind their work, check out the website,

The prices are fair, you pay for their expertise, & I believe it's worth it.

Here is a Quote I'm going to post in the Official Links Section, From the owner!

"The Motorcraft 5200 carburetor had several engineering problems from the
factory resulting in symptoms like hard hot starting, hesitations and flat
spots. During our restoration process, Pony Carburetors is able to correct
these engineering problems and make this carburetor run better than it did
when it was new." --Jon Enyeart, President/Owner, Pony Carburetors, Inc.

Seems like all Ford carbs have some sort of engineering problem;D  I had them do my 67 Mustang carb a few years back.  Again they corrected all the engineering problems.  They had it back to me within 10 days.  Not bad since I sent it over night and shipping ground took 3-5 days coast to coast.  They rebushed the shaft and everything.  Well worth the money.  I am tempted to send them my worn out 5200.  If the choke keeps acting up, it will be in on a truck in the near future.
