wondering if there are any models of fords that were close to swaping their 9" into pinto w/o shortening the housings???
See the link below. The 57-59 Fords and the some of 65-66 hi-po 289 Mustangs had 9" rears. I replaced the 8" rear in my 66 Mustang with a 57 Ford 9". It bolted in the 66 but I may have shortened the drive shaft, don't remember. The spring perches would need some modification to match the Pinto. I would be surprised if you can find any of these in the junk yard now.

well, my car has a 9" now..it looks stock( not narrowed). it does not have aftermarket axles, but has the big ford axle housing flange. but not the 5 1/2 bolt pattern like on the trucks...? curiosity did kill the cat, right.??
ANY IDEA WHAT IT CAME OUT OF MIGHTY ?
nope, the guy i bought it from didnt build the car...so, im playing detective. i did just put a cool disc brake kit on it from summit racing. since it had NO rear brakes at all, just backing plates !!!! wow, just discovered my answer possibly. it has the flat band in the middle, and a bottom drain plug......1957 ford..?!?! :o how many inches is a stock pinto 6 3/4 rear flange to flange..???
I THINK ITS 57"
well, that jives then. my 1957 - 9" axle is 57.25 inches, so it was a direct bolt in....thnx pintocrazed...
