Title: Chrome Dress-Up
Post by: NitroRustlerDriver on July 17, 2005, 07:54:36 PM
Hello all. My father and I just bought a 1929 Mercedes Benz Kit car with a 77 pinto engine in it. WE plan to show this ting at car show and such and would like to get a chrome kit for the engine. I found this one on JC Whitney:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-VehicleBrowse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2005388/showCustom-0/p-2005388/N-200728672+1977+111+600001693/c-10101

But it says it is for the 221 engine. That is a 3.6 liter, isn't it? So that one is wrong apparently, or am I missing something. Will it fit? If not, any links to where I can pick one up? Thanks.

Andrew

These dress-up kits are all for V8s. The 221 was the first small-block Ford V8 back in 1962 and was available in the new mid-sized Fairlane for that year. This is why the small-block was originally referred to as the "Fairlane V8". The 221 V8 was used to build the first prototype of the Shelby Cobra sportscar, but was replaced by the 260 as soon as it became available and then from there, the 289. On another historical note, the first Ford flathead V8 of 1932 was also a 221ci engine!
