Title: HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: demoderbynut on July 16, 2005, 12:38:23 AM
HERE IS THE DEAL.  HAVE 2.3 OUT OF LIKE AN 80 RANGER THAT I HAVE SITTING IN MY 75 PINTO WAGON.  THIS IS IN A DERBY CAR.  I AM PUTTING A CHEVY ALTERNATOR ON IT TO DO AWAY WITH ALOT OF THE LITTLE THINGS(MAINLY SO I CAN DO AWAY WITH ALL THE WIRES).  ALL THE WIRING HAS BEEN CUT OUT OF THE CAR.  IT HAS THREE WIRES COMING OUT OF THE DISTRIBUTOR.  ELECTRONIC IGNITION.  NOW HOW DO I WIRE THIS?  WHERE DO THE WIRES GO TO COMING OUT OF THE DISTRIBUTOR.  I AM USING A KEY SWITCH THAT HAS FOUR PLACES ON BACK LABELED FOR STARTER, ACCESSORIE, BATTERY & IGNITION.  CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO WIRE THIS WITH USING THE LEAST AMOUNT OF WIRES AS POSSIBLE.

Ok,  Does the chevy alternator have the voltage regulator built in?  If so connect the field wires (the smaller ones) to the large and run it to the battery side of the starter solenoid.  As far as the ignition switch, if you are derbying throw it away, and buy some toggle switches just trust me on that.
Man I cant think right now for some reason (cant remember all the wire colors).   hold on Ill go over to my race car today and right everything down for you, I have already converted everything this way on it , but im using an external ford regulator setup so ill have to figure it for your internal chevy setup (if your chev alt is internal).

ok lets start at the distibutor,

leave it alone, just let it plugged into the harness. it runs right to the module anyway.

next, the module:

the green wire goes to the coil, the other three go to the dist.
the 2 wire plug, has a white wire with a blue tracer, it gets connected to the wire from the other side of the coil(red w/ blue or green tracer) and both go to a switch that is connected to power(this is your on off switch for ign).
the other wire from the 2 wire plug is red w/blue or green tracer, gets run to the starter solenoid switch wire(the one that activates the solenoid, and is usually the same color), this wire is what tells the duraspark module to change the timing for starting.

These are the only wires needed if you have an internal regulated alternator.  if you want to put your alternator on a switch so it only runs when you want it too,  put a switch between the alternators field wires and the power source.

good luck.

Ok i just realized i missed an important part of your post, the part about no wiring, except the 3 coming out of the distributor.  Ill look again tomorrow to see if the dist. wires are the same color as the module wires.
If you still insist on the ign switch you have, the starter post goes to the solenoid(the little tiny post) and the red and blue or green tracer wire from the module.

the battery post goes to your battery side of the solenoid.

Ign goes to the 2 wires that you put together of the module and coil.

Accessory is unused. you could hook it up to a dome light so you can see to bucle up and put your helmet on if you are derbying after dark.
