Title: stock 2.0 pinto radiator enough for turbo 2.3 motor
Post by: biggrgivens on September 15, 2014, 04:34:51 PM
I am dropping in a turbo 2.3 svo motor and wanted to know if the 2.0 radiator is enough to keep it cool. If not what aftermarket radiator do you suggest that will fit in the pinto stock location?

Do a search, as that was just talked about on here. Think it was a V-6 Dodge mini-pick up. 2.0 radiator isn't good enough for a warmed over 2.0.

What year?  If you have a 2.0 I believe only the '74 Pinto had a plate to use the smaller 2.0 radiator in the larger opening.  So if your Pinto is a '71-'73 you will likely have to increase the cradle opening for a larger radiator. See the last picture, the cradle was widened about 3"-4" and the metal overlapped to provide strength. With the 2.3 Turbo (no mechanical fan) in a '71-'73 car the clearance in very small (see middle picture). An FYI, the '71-'73 has a 17"radiator and the 2.3 cars had a 20" radiator (See first picture).

CU426 is the larger Pinto radiator for AC cars. CU981 is the Dakota radiator I used on my 80.

You have to make mounts but it's easy.
