Title: Need to know about car shows.
Post by: sagesunrise on July 12, 2005, 07:26:14 PM
Troops,
I have never been to a car show and wanted to know what one does in preparation of one. Do they judge your car if there is a speck of dirt on it? Do most people trailer in their vehicle or drive it in? What do you do while at the show, just talk to folks? Any pointers, hints, advice is welcome. Please spill all about car shows.

Thank you  :D

I've got my first car show coming up in October. I was given a free entry just to encourage me to bring the Pinto and it's definitely no prize winner. Maybe there's a class for "under reconstruction"

This all depends on the type of show. A  show without judging you probably don't need to do more than wash and wax. But if you're entering it for judging you wanna clean everything. The underside of the hood, your air cleaner get everything shiney and nice. No dirt anywhere. Trailering or driving is a personal preference depending upon if you drive the car on a regular basis or not and how clean you want it to be when you arrive. Once you're at the show you usually just talk to people. I go around check out the other cars and then will spend time at my car where people will usually come up and talk. People seem to enjoy talking about the oddball cars.

That is the absolute truth.

If Shiney is all I need to know, then I think I'm ready to go!!
I am interested in the North Olympic Mustangs and Cougars shows and they have a class for "Fixer Uppers" which my car pretty much is. I mean the engine has a lot of miles on it (but still running excellent) and my interior is unfinished, but I have put some leopard print material and pillows in the back seat to take up the space-it doesn't look too bad. The president of the group said I might want to wait until my interior is finished, but I don't care if I win or not. I just want to mingle with the people and have them see my FORDPINTO.COM STICKER!! I'd like to see what the shows are all about and see if there are any other pintos at them.

By all means, GO Sage. If you go expecting a trophy, then you'll be miserable. If you enjoy just going to shows, then it'll be like going to one, except with a PRIMO parking spot. over the years I've showed a couple of my cars. Each time I had a blast, no matter the condition of your car you'll get lotsa looks & as an unfinished car, you'll get tips & tricks on finishing it.

My first car show was just below my house . we had just finished my car. The interior looked like crap and the car was not painted. But I could not beleave the people that would come up and talk about the car. I got so many pats on the back that I had blisters LOL. I won unfinished in North Carolina and got a louder applause that the guy did that won best of show. At the meet and greet in tenn I won diamond in the rough. It don't matter what it looks like. People love pintos. I stopped to fill up last week and it took my 30 mins. I had teenagers hanging all over the car. Wash it, Wax it and show it. I bet you will love it.

There is a big Mustang show up at Bellevue Community College this weekend.  Sunday is the people's choice show.  If the weather is nice then it should be a good turn out.

HEY SAGE,  ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO A FRIEND OF MINE TALKED ME INTO GOING TO MY FIRST CAR SHOW.I TOLD HIM THEY WOULD MAKE FUN OF MY PINTO, HE SAID NOT! I TOLD HIM I WOULD ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN AND DRIVE AROUND TWICE AND IF I HEARD ANYONE LAUGHING I WOULD KEEP ON DRIVING. I HAVE BEEN TO MANY SHOWS SINCE AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I HAVE FIRST PLACE TROPHYS FOR EVERY YEAR. BUT IT'S NOT ABOUT THE TROPHYS, IT'S ABOUT HAVING FUN! I'VE ONLY SEEN 3 PINTOS IN 8 YRS. OF SHOWS, SEEMS THAT INDIANA WEATHER IS NOT KIND TO THEM.BUT BY ALL MEANS GO AND DON'T FORGET TO TAKE YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR WITH YOU.......SKY

Sky,
Washington weather is not good to pintos either. I am curious to see how many pintos I encounter when I start going to shows. And don't worry, I never leave home without my sense of humor! I love to laugh and love making people laugh. It is good for the soul!  :D

well, I'd say if you want to have a good time, drive to the show (after you wash it) drive into the place, if they let you enter with the engine running, and just wing it. you'll have more fun than the guy that trailers his car to every show. you know, car stays in the garage all year, it runs for about a total of ten minutes (in and out of the trailer) and if he doesn't win an award at the show, he'll be hell to live with for the next six months or so. have a good time, and drive the car to the show. trailers are for boats and cars that don't run.

Thanks for your input Krazi! The only trailer I have is a dilapidated piece of crap with a bent tongue and we keep our garbage in it (don't worry, we haul it to the dump every month or so), so I guess I don't have much of a choice.
