Could anyone describe or give me the dimensions for the cut that I will have to make in the wheel well to fit my turbo. I remember reading a post before but can no longer find it. I would love to get the engine in first try without scratching the fresh paint in my engine bay. Stock mounts? Ways to lower the mounts so the hood may close? Any other helpfull info?
Its a catch 22. The lower your engine the more "dent" you will need at the turbo. This "dent" is approx. at the bottom of the battery tray area and inboard where the inside of the wheel well starts to turn from horizontal to vertical. Your best bet is the get the engine where you want it and then figure out the "dent".
This is how it looks on my 79 wagon. The engine is from an 88 TurboCoupe.

I used the stock Pinto engine mounts. I had to swap oil pans and oil pumps. The Pinto throttle cable was too short so I swapped in the Tbird cable. The T-5 out of the Tbird had a hydrolic clutch setup. I swapped the bellhousing, shift fork and cable from an earlier trans. Not sure what year it was. I think it was from a Mustang.
I will be revamping the album soon. I will be removing everything from the 79 wagon and installing it in a 78 wagon I recently bought. I will be documenting the swap as much as I can. If you have any more questions, Ill be happy to try and answer them.
