I damaged the hood of my 1973 and need another.
At some point they added inside hood releases to the Pinto, and these hoods would not interchange with older Pintos. Anyone know which year this was? I am guessing 1971 to about 1974 hoods are interchangeable, but they may go to 1975.
My 74 wagon has the hood release cable on the inside.
Don't know if the hood would work on yours.

From what I see as far as parts interchangeability, it's probably 71-73. 74-78 stuff is mostly interchangable, and then the 79/80 are interchangeable as a general rule of thumb as far as body parts. Hope that helps.
Thank you so much for this info. If 1974 had a hood release cable, it is not interchangeable. So it has to be a 1971-1973. These are rare. I am going to take it to another body shop, looking for an old-school guy who can straighten metal. It seems to be a rare skill these days.
Thats the good old steel too hard to do anything with even drill into it

Could you verify whether the hood latch assembly bolts to your hood, or whether your hood merely has two holes, and the latch mechanism is mounted on the front of the firewall? My 1973 is the first type.
Both of the latches (cable one and the lever one)are on the radiator support, the hood just has the (blanking on right name) hooks/catches? on it.
Decided it might be easier to take a couple of pictures.
This should make it clear.

That's the way mine is..
Thanks! I can see that your hood is entirely different than mine. Might have an extra hood for you, in perfect condition, if you want! My original idea was to convert my 1973 to the later hood release for security, but I don't want to do that project now.
Wow I have a 73 hood in my shop I got when I planned to replace mine because of a dent in the front I couldn't get to. Fixed it instead. Too bad we are so far from each other. I'm guessing shipping would be a little prohibitive. I'm in WA. State.

I would be willing to buy it for an extra if shipping was $100 or less. Next time you have a UPS man at your house, ask him if it could be shipped uncrated. Some items can.
Try Greyhound. A hood is probably under $50 to ship.
