I installed a maverick V6 rear end in my pinto. Cant seem to get the u bolts to go threw the stock plates. I also tried to use the maverick U bolts but they wont work with my shocks. What do i need to do? just drill the stock pinto u bolt plates? Do I toss the other pinto rubber isolators away? Break it down for me. thanks.
I modified my stock plates to work, discarded the rubbers.
You know the bolt pattern for the wheels is different, right ?

Ugh, no I didnt. I just assumed because it was suggested and was 4 lug that it would be the same.
The Maverick rear end is about an inch narrower end to end and the spring perches are about an inch and a half further apart than the Pinto's. The Pinto has staggered shocks and the Maverick does not which is why the shock plates are not working right. The Maverick rear end is not a direct bolt in as you've found out.

One is 4" one is 4 1/2".
The Mustang II rear end is a way easier swap.
Fox body wheels also bolt on, but there is sometimes issues with to much backspace.
And, as an additional precaution, the brake drums from the Pinto 6-3/4" rear will not fit 8" Mustang II/Pinto rear. The bolt pattern is correct. The diameter of the brake area is correct, but the center hole is not big enough. Best to get a drum to drum 8" rear from a Mustang II or Pinto. And, unless there is something I don't know, they only came in 3:00, 3:40 and 3:55 ratios (from the factory).
Then it sounds like the 6.75's drums will fit if the center hole is bored out to fit the 8.00's axles.
I think what I'm going to do is weld perches on a 7.5" Turbo Coupe rear end and use the 10-holes that have 5" backspacing. Hopefully my 2.3T won't break the 6.75 rear before that. :P

Mavericks have either four or five lugs on a 4.5" bolt circle and the Pinto/MII is four on a 4.
25" circle.
Im pretty sure the 5 lug ones wont fit either, yes I mistyped should have been 4.25, point being they are different.

Naturally a five-lug axle won't fit in a four-lug wheel.

I'd say probably. But..., the likelihood that the drum center is established first on the center hole basically leaves you to being accurate with a 4 jaw chuck to mount it. I doubt center is originally established off the exterior of the drum. When I bought my 8" rearend at Pick Your Part it was all of $10 extra to get it drum to drum. I think $116 out the door including the core charge. Of course that was 6 years ago and their prices have skyrocketed. But, still the drum to drum price is only a marginal increase. Plus you get spare backing plates, shoes and brake hardware.
I had envisioned putting the drum on a mill table and centering off of the original center hole....
Thanks guys. I got lucky in the fact that the wheels that bcame with the car had two different 4 lug bolt patterns, and the other pattern did work. As for the perches I drilled them for the u bolts. Last issue I now see from reading is that the rear end tube brackets are slightly farther out as stated. I was wondering why the one leaf sopring was angled outward, so no I know. going to have to go back under there and elongate the holes so that it will fit right.

Since I already have the maverick rear end in, What is the fix? I redrilled the stock pinto plates for the U bolts and that has worked out, however the leaf springs still kinda tweak out. If I redrill the Maverick axel perches wil I be fine? Did you say they are about an inch out on either side or a half inch per side?
The Maverick spring perches are about 3/4 of an inch outboard on each side. In my opinion, too much to just re-drill the hole for the bolt head on the leaf spring. I have seen where someone welded on an extra section to the existing Maverick perches for the proper support.
