just wanted to know if anyone uses these and if they would by worth the purchase? not sure as to how to post things like this up here. it is an e-bay item the number is 280739108562. just looking for some opinions of the item in question. was thinking of purchasing a pair. any help, please!
thanks!!
I put a set on one of my cars two years ago, and I love them. They haven't failed me yet, but like I said its only been two years. As a matter of fact I think I'll order a another set. You will need to grind away a little of the battery hold down if you still have the plastic original, but it only takes a minute with a die grinder.
They are a little pricey for any more than they are, but there so much more handy than a hood prop.
No experience with them, just a couple of info links. Redline's ebay price is higher than their web site price for some reason, maybe shipping.

I know I'm not big on them, it is hard to find ones that last as long as the OEM ones do. They tend to slowly leak down. Any I've bought have anyway, a year about max before pressure starts dropping off. As well, when I sold them at the parts store a lot of people either warrantied them pretty quick or asked for refund when they did not nearly approach the stated 'lifetime warranty' which was a joke on that type part.
I got two sets that both leaked down to not work hardly at all. Not on Pinto hood, just OEM replacements for standard parts. Sachs branded......I had thought Motormite but losing my mind there.
Seems kinda pricey, I'd check out a RV/Camper supply house for them..

Yeah should be half that price for two.
thanks for all the help/input guys! any more would greatly help in my making up my mind in getting a set.
thanks!!
I have the very first set made for the Pinto. They have been on my car for the last 6 years with no leakage.I am very pleased with them and would buy more if needed.
I managed to spruce together a "DIY kit" from a Pontiac Gran Prix, Ford Tauras, and a Mercury Cougar! Quite effective! Using all scrap yard parts, including the struts, I think I am on four or five years on the same struts that came from the Cougar I pulled them from when I did the modification!
Dave,
Do you have a list of the different parts you used available?
Russ
thanks everyone! I just purchased a set from the redline web sight. I will keep ya all posted as to the results. again thanks for all the input.
I have always wanted something to keep the hood up on windy days. I am always afraid to put the hood up, in fear of it crashing down with the hood prop in place and good gust of wind shaking it so bad that it would rip it out and, well we all know what would happen then! would not be a very pretty thing. not to mention how upset I would be!
