Can anybody help with the proper way to install the aluminum trim around the rear window of a wagon? 2 hours and got nowhere...... :-[
I think you need to remove the window and put the trim in the gasket before you install window.
I think tigger is right!! tried to remove the side window trim and could not bet it to pop out till I removed the glass!!
good luck!!
Second on Tigger is right, you need to remove the window.
Crap, not looking forward to removing the glass. Tigger, are you sure you can install the glass after the trim is installed? Seems the trim piece is what keeps the glass in place.
Mine is in but not all the way. Even the guy who tinted my glass couldn't get it all in there. I plan on bringing it to a window glass shop and see if they can get it in there after the car is painted...
Yes, you can install the glass after the trim is in place. I did mine this way. I used the rope method of installing it. Use a length of cord in the rubber gasket channel and when you pull the cord out it pulls the rubber gasket lip over the door frame.
So in your method you installed the rubber with the trim around the glass, then fed the assembly onto the door using the cord to pull the lip of the rubber over the opening.
Did you have the glass assembly on the outside of the car and someone on the inside pull the cord, or the assembly on the inside held up by one persone then pull the cord from the outside of the car?
One person outside applying some pressure to the glass by where the cord is working the lip over the frame. The other person is CAREFULLY pulling the cord. It works good on the rear door to have the door propped about 1/2 way open when doing this.
Patience and 100% communication between the two guys. Easy to break glass by forcing it. Old rubber seals are not going to like being flexed by the rope like that at all. I hate messing with them.
