Title: interchangeability
Post by: nlualum82 on June 30, 2005, 04:33:49 PM
I need to know some of the lingo and year models I'm looking for.
I want to keep my '75 Bobcat 2.3 simple - just a stock carbed motor, maybe a little dressup, valve cover, air cleaner, and I'm seeing some cheap headers on ebay that would look better than the exhaust manifold, any performance increase at all from those would be fine.
Do I have a "D-port"? saw that in an intake manifold synopsis on ebay.
Will my intake and carb work on engines that were fuel injected?
If I use my ignition can I stick with my non-computer harness instead of getting into a project like that?
Please give me a list of vehicles I'm searching:
     '74-80 Pinto & Bobcat
     '74-78 Mustang ll
     __-__ Courier
     __-__ Ranger
    Thunderbird/Cougar? Fairmont/Zephyr?
Also, has anyone bought a kit to rebuild a stocker that they have advice on?
J.C Whitney? remanufacturer? I'll note any recommendations pro or con.
Seems like there are a couple of companies on ebay selling remanufactureds. Most of them say Tempo. Is that going to bolt up to my C3 bellhousing?
What years and/or models are definite no-nos for a straight bolt-in?
Should I  be wary of any Front WD ?
I know I'm annoying, but I've got a lot to learn - came here to skip street corner misinformation!

'I'd like to help you out... BUT I have the 2.0 engine. ;D
The Pinto 2.3 has the oval prot D chamber head.
I think you could run the D-port manifold  but not the other way around.
The tempo has the HSC engine that is totallly different from the pinto 2.3.
Yes you could use a F.I. engine But a turbo F.I. engine would have very low C.R.
you would need an aftermarket manifold to run the stock holley 5200.

Some oval port heads came from the factory with d port manifolds (usually the later years)
The stock engine in your 'cat is an oval port head.
You shouldn't have to change the wiring on your car if you're sticking with stock type parts.
I wouldn't get anything from a FWD car.

Here's a bit on the different engines

Here's Racer Walsh's 4cyl guide http://static.zoovy.com/merchant/racerwalsh/Back_2_Basics_Sheet.doc (http://static.zoovy.com/merchant/racerwalsh/Back_2_Basics_Sheet.doc)
Might be of some help as well.
