I have a radio, seems to be an original, I picked up. from the back of the radio the wires are:(same plug) blue wire going to the light at the top of the radio, black wire with what looks like a fusable link(should be the power, correct?)...... from the middle one black wire with white strip and one that looks to be dark brown/black(thinking speaker, correct?)
my delima.....I THINK I have found the radio plug fro the wiring harness. when the blue and black wire are plugged in the radio doesnt work.....however when I touch the black and white stripped wire to the power wire(what I think is a speaker wire) the light will come on in the radio.
Any suggestion why this is happening?
OR does anyone have the wireing diagram to tell me if I do have the correct wires?
that 2 plugs one for the power and ground for radio - and one for the speaker outputs!
and believe the blue it the power! its been awhile since I have installed a radio in any of mine!
and what year are we working on?! looking in my diagrams now but for 75-76 so may not be too much help!1
If in the big city go to your public library and the reference section. Commonly they may have factory service or wiring manuals that may solve your problem.
its an 80.... the blue wire goes to the light for the radio.....I will check the library
thanks
With it plugged in, Touch the radio itself to a metal part on the car- Negative Ground.
That's how it works in my 72. There is a mount w 2 bolts that attached the radio to the dashboard. (The bolt hole under the radio on the back)...

this is an understatment!!!!! the light will only come on if the headlights are on......stupid :-[
now if I can get something other than static, like the antenna is not hooked up, out of the radio I will be on to something.
Glad you sorted this- I have one of those 'hidden' antennas mounted on the dash... I had a fender replaced almost 2 years ago and opted not to cut out the antenna hole which lead me to this type of antenna...
Always wanted to see a power antenna on a pinto, that would be cool.
