Has anyone used a power pulley. I bought one because, 1 its shining 2 my crank pulley is bent.
Used them on Pintos I raced in SCCA for 40 years with no problems at all. You will need a timeing pointer like Esslinger sell to set the timeing. That's all. On the street? Who knows????
Power pulleys slows down belt speed to conserve HP turning accessories, water pump and alternator turns slower so if you have a high power sound system or anything it could be an issue, if you live in a desert climate could have an issue in the hot summers, if neither applies then there shouldn't be a problem running a power pulley.
I always use the timing market on the crank gear. Plus there are not any timing marks on the new one anyways. Some guy made it with his CNC machine. He had good feed back on it though. My car is an automatic and i set the idle to 900RPM(instead of 600RPM for an Manual) anyways Im going to guess that spinning a 1/3 faster should make up for the pulley being a 1/3 smaller lol. I live in Nashville, So Im going install a temp gauge just in case. Anything has to be better than the chewed up crank pulley!
Have used one on the street for years no overheating problems here in virginia, however my car idles faster than most due to the big cam. The pulley I have has a 360 degree marked decal mounted on the face of pulley for timing.
Over the years I've come to not trust timing marks on the dampner or pointers, I've found so many that were anywhere from 1-4 degrees off from either the pointer or the dampner marks or both, anymore if I get a vehicle or change anything I always bring up absolute TDC and verify the mark to the pointer.
Yeah I'm a tooth off on my cam, because of my stupid cam pointer/ and my stupid azz for trusting it.
It should be running horribly or not at all with one tooth off at cam......................that's a bunch.
If it runs it has to be lazy.
when I got my car the cam was one tooth off(can't remember which direction), in addition to both the cam lobes for cylinder #4 being almost worn to nothing. Impressively, it still started every time I turned the key. It was definitely lacking power but it ran.
Yep they will run, I had them old factory cam gears with the nylon ring lose teeth and chain skip teeth before, it still ran and made it home, lol..
I've seen zetec jump belt and starts and runs low perfectly but drive it and goes up to maybe 30 mph and suddenly like a rev limiter, the engine just bogs and intake gets louder. Strange. Below that you wouldn't know anything was wrong.
well i think it was distributor timing because, I checked it with a string and everything lined up.
So, is it running good now?...
