Title: ratchety ratchety wiper noise
Post by: renton481 on June 13, 2005, 07:22:12 PM
The windshield wipers on my 79 SW make ratchety noises while operating.  Is there something that needs to be lubricated, or is it a sign of something wearing out?  I had the wiper motor replaced a couple years ago... the car's been in storage for about a year, and now that I'm driving again I notice the ratchety noise.

Is there a linkage from the motor to the actual wipers?  My Chilton's book mentions a 'drive arm' but has no illustration.

Hey Renton,
Get a razor blade scraper and scrape the entirre W/S.
Then pollish it out with some body buffing compound like 3M glaze and fill.
That will smooth out the W/S glass so your wipers will run smooth.
You may also have wear but my remedy will help.
