I am installing a Ford Pinto 2.3 Turbo EFI into an old 1942 Willys MB. I purchased the motor and while it came with a wiring harness, it did not come with a computer. I need help identifying what type of motor I have so I can figure out what computer I need! Here are some of the numbers I found:
Block: E3ZE (83 Mustang ?)
Exhause Manu: E6SE (86 Tbird?)
Turbo: A.R. .60 Illeg
Where else should I look for part numbers to ID this motor so that I can get started sourcing a computer?
Thanks
all the turbo 2.3 engines share the same internals so if you have a large vam and 36lb injectors you can use any of the l series ecu's, la2 or la3, lb2, lb3 or the 8ua, they have the fastest processor.
Thanks for the info!
I just measured the VAM and it is just a little over 2 and a half inches in diameter - I think it is a small VAM, correct?
The part number is E5ZF-12B529-AA
The injectors have brown tops on them and have a part number E5ZE(F)-43? are those 35lbs injectors?
yeah, those are brown tops, I may have a ecu that is for the small vam and brown tops...if I do id let it go for 50 shipped...
That would be great!
Let me know the info and I'll get you some money.
Which would take me to my next Q... I have a wiring harness that came with the motor that may need modding or not. I am comfortable with rewiring and electronics so long as I have a schematic of what I am trying to achieve. I have found a bunch online, but am not quite sure which one is correct... If you had any input it would be greatly appreciated as well!
Thanks again
That's not likely to be LA type computer wiring. Might use the older pin-out like the PJ and PE. Not hard to fix :)
I suspect that you are right - any thoughts of how to identify what I have? It has a gray 60 pin connector...
I used a pc1 with brown tops and small vam. that should work with that harness without mods.
Hey there Pinturbo75, ever find that computer for the Small vam and 35 lbs injectors? I'm ready to buy if you have it.
Got the motor mounted over the weekend, now time to start putting everything together!
Thanks
lemme double check after work tonight, im pretty sure i still have it....
shipped today 10:15 am, priority mail..... thanks.
Thanks again, much appreciated. Sorry about the sleepy voice this am!
no problem, didnt realize you were on the wrong coast.....
It's funny, I tell myself the same thing every day! If it wasn't for the weather...
yeah, I used to live in venice as a kid, and sac after I got out of the corp and divorced... my sis still lives there...
Just received the computer today, thanks!
It will be a while until I get to test it out - any chance you have some resources about how to identify what wiring harness I have? If I didn't know better, I would think it was the coveted stand alone Merkur harness - but I was told Thunderbird when I bought the motor. Any thoughts about how to identify it?

Awesome man! My Saturday just got a little more interesting :)
Thanks again
I just realized that I also need a Ford PC1 pinout to figure out what goes where - I searched around a little to no avail. Anyone have a link?
