In reference to my previous post I ask what more can I do to make my 2300 engine with a C-3 trans perform better, I am not racing? I have taken all the smog stuff off, have a modified roller cam, exhaust headers and the mentioned Offenhauser intake manifold. I do not want to go into the engine for all that stuff. Any clues would be welcomed.
Option 1 pull the head and have it ported within a mm of its water jackets ( breathing is the biggest hurdle for these motors to make power). option 2 force feed it option 3 no replacement for displacement stuff in a 5.0. you will see no gains without opening the motor up
My recipe for making serious non-turbo power is a '79 turbo longblock(9 to 1 forged pistons stock), D-port head shaved & ported with big valves, Esslinger solid cam(over .500 lift), long tube header, Esslinger intake with dual Weber 40 IDF downdraft carbs & a complete MSD ignition(billet dizzy, 6A box, coil & 8mm wires).
It's for my dunebuggy but in a few months I plan to stick it in my '80 hatch for a couple seasons on the street. I'm shooting for 225 HP but it's not going to be a great street driver with this combo. I got some great deals on some used parts for this build but I'm still in it close to $1500 bucks. Non-turbo power is expensive.
