Title: rpm troubles?????
Post by: RAGINGPINTO on June 07, 2005, 01:17:33 AM
I just redone the top end in my 80 pony I put a D-port head and intake on it with a header
and 2 barell holley. Here is my problem, I also put a roller cam and rockerarms in it, out of a miget racecar, I dont know any of the cam specs all I know is it is a monster of a cam When the car is at idle it thumps like a dragster When I rev it up it only tachs out at 5500 rpm? Could the fuel pump be not enough or ??? If any one can find out the specs for my cam here is the part number #679520 If any has any sugestions PLEASE let me know!

Did you use the stock valve springs? High lift race rollers cams won't work with stock springs, too much valve float.
Was it originally a solid lifter cam and you used your hydraulics?

Not the original springs but new replacement springs. Does anyone know if the blue duraspark ignition box has a rev limiter? Because the way the engine cuts out it acts exactly like a rev limiter. Every time the rpm hits 5500-5800 it bounces up and down just like the rev limiter in my newer car. When I hold it to the floor, the rpm's come up to 5800 and then it cuts back to 5500 rpm, even if I hold to the mat for 5 minutes? It just bounces between 55 and 5800 rpm.
