Anybody got any suggestions on the starter removal and install of a new starter on a 302 1979 Pinto? This is going to be fun. No room to drop it out.
i had to unbolt my steering rack and motor mount and steel frame mount on my 351 pinto ...no big deal just a lot of work ...
Was just looking at the starter, looks like if I pull the motor mount I might be able to do it. Thinking about installing a mini-starter.
Right now if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But its a good idea to look into the hows and whys.
LOL, not broke yet. Pinto has been sitting for 7 years, the starter looks like a round tube of rust. It turns over barely enough to start the car. I cleaned all the grounds, adjusted timing and it still barely turns over the 302 engine.
No two ways about it, in order to pull the starter you will have to drop the steering rack, there is no other way...As for dropping the motor mount I doubt it just drop the rack....And while your at it , if the rag joint is still(????) there change it out for a new one and up date the bushings for the steering rack, your car will love you for the changes
Talking bad words to it as you
work on it seems to help immensely.
I put a mini starter on my 76 w/302- C4 I can take it off and put back on with no issues.
@racer99, yeah I did say a few, still sat there and looked at me..lol
My 72 has less clearance & pulling the right motor mount is all I have to do , to remove/install.
I have to remove the engine mount, frame mount and jack the engine up just a little on my 80 wagon. Not too terribly bad but a bit of a pain. That's why a new one went back in.
I think I can get if I do the same, remove the whole motor mount and jack it up a bit.
